Releasing Energetic Ties with Intentional Breathwork: Incorporating Qigong Techniques

Releasing long-held energetic attachments whether emotional, physical, or spiritual, mental can feel like shedding layers of heaviness that no longer serve you. These ties often build up in areas like the neck, shoulders, back, and spine, where tension and burdens accumulate over time. One powerful, accessible way to release these attachments is through intentional breathwork, particularly using Qigong techniques.

Qigong (pronounced “chee-gong”) is a centuries-old Chinese practice that combines breath, movement, and meditation to balance and enhance the flow of life energy, or “Qi.” By focusing on the breath and simple movements, Qigong can help you clear blockages, release tension, and restore harmony to your body and spirit.

Why the Breath is Key

The breath serves as a bridge between the physical body and the energetic system. Intentional breathing allows you to move stagnant energy, release what no longer serves you, and invite vitality into areas that feel heavy or blocked.

Qigong Techniques for Releasing Energetic Ties

1. Breath Awareness to Anchor and Ground

• Sit or stand in a comfortable position with your spine straight.

• Place one hand on your lower abdomen and the other on your chest.

• Inhale deeply through your nose, allowing your belly to expand first, followed by your chest. Exhale slowly and fully through your mouth, feeling tension leave your body you may also feel lightheaded this is an energy release.

• Visualize the breath as a golden light moving through your body, grounding you and creating a safe space for release.

2. Clearing the Neck and Shoulders

• With your arms relaxed by your sides, inhale deeply. As you exhale, slowly roll your shoulders forward in a circular motion, then reverse the motion. Repeat 5-10 times. I felt at times my neck was breaking as I carried 38 yeas of throat chakra baggage but pushing through was truly worth the release.

• As you roll, imagine cords or attachments loosening and breaking away from your neck and shoulders.

• With each exhale, sigh gently, releasing tension and emotional weight.

3. The Cutting Cords Breath (Sword Hand Technique)

• Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, and hands at your sides.

• Inhale deeply and raise one hand to chest height, palm facing out, as if holding an invisible sword.

• On the exhale, push your hand out sharply in a cutting motion, visualizing yourself severing energetic ties around your neck, shoulders, or wherever you feel heaviness.

• Repeat with the other hand, alternating sides for 8-10 breaths.

4. The Spinal Flow Breath

• Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, hands resting on your thighs.

• Inhale and gently arch your back, lifting your head and chest toward the sky.

• Exhale and round your back, tucking your chin and pelvis as if curling into a ball.

• Move slowly and rhythmically for 8-10 breaths, visualizing energy flowing freely along your spine. This can help release tension in the back and brainstem while creating a sense of alignment.

5. Release and Fill Visualization

• As you exhale, imagine dark or stagnant energy leaving your body, dissolving into the ground.

• On each inhale, visualize pure, healing light entering through the crown of your head, filling your body with warmth and freedom.

• Focus on the area around your neck and shoulders, allowing this light to clear away any lingering attachments.

Closing Your Practice

After completing the Qigong exercises, take a few moments to stand or sit quietly. Place your hands over your lower abdomen, just below the navel, and breathe gently. Visualize your energy settling and grounding, leaving you feeling clear, strong, and centered.

Final Thoughts

By combining intentional breathwork with simple, flowing movements, Qigong offers a powerful way to release energetic ties, especially in areas prone to tension like the neck, shoulders, and spine. These practices not only help clear blockages but also create space for vitality, self-expression, and peace.

Start slowly, listen to your body, and let the breath guide you through your healing journey. As you release what no longer serves you, you’ll open the door to a lighter, freer, and more aligned version of yourself.

It’s important to remember that with any deep healing process, whether physical, emotional, or energetic, symptoms may intensify before they improve.

This is often part of the natural release and clearing process as your body or energy system lets go of what no longer serves you. However, it’s equally important not to push yourself beyond your capable limits. Pay attention to what your body is telling you, no one knows it better than you do. Temporary discomfort can be a sign of progress, but honor your own boundaries, rest when needed, and approach your healing journey with patience and self-compassion.
