There once was a boy named Jack McGee,
In a world where backward was all you could be.
“Step in reverse!” the people would shout,
“That’s how it’s done, there’s no other route!”
But Jack shook his head, with a grin on his face,
“I won’t go back, I’ll set my own pace!”
So while others moved with steps in retreat,
Jack marched ahead, quick on his feet.
He stepped past the town with its backward ways,
Past old-fashioned thoughts and yesterdays.
The houses grew smaller, the voices less clear,
As Jack kept moving, with nothing to fear.
“You’ll miss what you leave!” they hollered behind,
But Jack only smiled, for forward he’d find—
New places to see, new skies to explore,
A world full of wonders, with so much in store.
“I can’t look back,” he’d say with a grin,
“For life’s just begun, and I’m ready to win!”
And though they stayed stuck in the past they all knew,
Jack’s future was bright, as he stepped into new.
So onward he went, with a spring in his stride,
Leaving backward behind, and the world open wide.
For Jack had learned what the others could see:
The future is forward, for those who are free.
