The Dragon Council by David Moylan
In a realm high above the clouds, a kingdom of dragons had ruled for millennia. Each dragon in this council represented a force that shaped the world below. There was Religion, whose shimmering white scales reflected the worship and faith of mortals. Government, with his iron-gray body, towered above the rest, maintaining order and control. Business was swift and sleek, her golden eyes ever-watchful for opportunity and wealth. Family, gentle yet imposing, sought to bind people together in unity, though his wings were often heavy with tradition. And finally, Finance, whose black scales gleamed with the treasures of the world, sat at the heart of their decisions.
For years, these dragons governed the realm and influenced the mortal world beneath them. But over time, they grew disconnected. Religion became obsessed with dogma, losing sight of its core values. Government began to rule with tyranny and fear, prioritizing control above all else. Business, once a force of innovation and progress, was consumed by greed. Family became rigid, enforcing division rather than unity. And Finance? His once just and fair dealings had become exploitative, hoarding wealth and draining life from the realm.
The world beneath them began to suffer. The skies dimmed, the rivers dried, and the mortals below became desperate, divided, and lost. The dragons, now enthralled by their own lust for power, could not see the harm they had caused. Each dragon jealously guarded their domain, ensuring no one could question their rule. But deep within their kingdom, a prophecy whispered in the winds—that one day, a chosen dragon would rise, a dragon that would remind them of the true purpose of their power.
That dragon was Love.
Love was unlike any other dragon. His iridescent scales shimmered with all the colors of the rainbow, but his form was soft, his presence quiet. Unlike the others, Love had no desire for control. He did not sit upon piles of gold, nor did he seek followers to praise him. He flew gently over the realm, watching, waiting, hoping that the others would see the error of their ways. But they never did.
One day, the suffering of the mortals below reached a breaking point. The realm teetered on the edge of collapse, and the council of dragons was more fractured than ever. Love knew the time had come. He did not want to rule—ruling was never his purpose—but he could not stand by any longer and watch the world fall apart.
With a deep breath, Love summoned the dragons to a grand council. At first, they scoffed at the idea. “What does Love know of power?” Government sneered. “Love is weak,” Finance growled. But the realm was faltering, and even in their arrogance, the dragons knew something had to change.
So, begrudgingly, they gathered around a great stone table in the heart of the sky. Love stood at the head, his gentle eyes meeting each of theirs. “I do not wish to take your power,” Love began, his voice soft yet carrying the weight of the skies. “But I ask you to look at what has become of our world. The mortals suffer, and the realm crumbles. You have lost sight of why you were given your gifts.”
Religion slammed her claw on the table. “I guide the people in their faith! I uphold the sacred!” she snarled.
“Do you?” Love asked quietly. “You have turned faith into fear. You have lost the connection to the divine, the source of all things.”
Government narrowed his eyes. “Without me, there would be chaos.”
“There is already chaos,” Love replied. “Not because of the lack of laws, but because you have governed through control rather than care.”
One by one, Love addressed each dragon. To Business, he said, “You have grown wealthy, but at the cost of the people who once looked to you for innovation.” To Family, he whispered, “You have bound people with chains of tradition, rather than bonds of love.” And to Finance, he said, “Your treasures mean nothing if the world itself is impoverished.”
Each dragon felt something stir within them—a crack in the walls they had built around their hearts. For so long, they had been caught in a spell of power, greed, and control, unable to see beyond their own desires. But as Love spoke, they began to remember the true purpose of their existence.
“You were not meant to rule with fear, greed, or dominance,” Love said. “You were meant to serve, to guide, to nurture. Power without love is hollow. But with love, it can transform the world.”
The dragons were silent. For the first time in eons, they felt vulnerable. They had hated Love for so long, believing him to be weak, insignificant. But now, they realized that Love was the key they had been missing all along.
“We do not know how to rule with love,” Religion admitted, her voice trembling. “We have forgotten.”
“You do not have to rule alone,” Love replied. “I will stand by your side. Together, we will restore balance to the realm.”
And so, for the first time, the dragons set aside their pride. They began to listen to Love, and with his guidance, they transformed their realm. Religion became a source of compassion, guiding mortals not through fear but through understanding. Government ruled justly, with fairness and empathy. Business thrived, but not at the expense of others—innovation was once again driven by the desire to uplift all. Family became a source of connection, fostering love and unity. And Finance learned to distribute wealth in a way that supported the growth and prosperity of the entire realm.
With Love’s assistance, the dragons found harmony once more. The skies cleared, the rivers flowed, and the world beneath them flourished. The spell of power and greed that had once consumed them was broken, and they governed not with force, but with love.
And though Love never sought to rule, he had become the heart of the realm, reminding all who dwelled within it that true power was not found in control or wealth, but in the boundless, transformative force of love.
Life and Love, as well as Love of Life is the ultimate mirror leading me back to my higher self 🌀 the purpose of life.
